Cannot Add Contact from Chat
Affected version
- GNOME Contacts version: 43.0
- Application provider: distribution
- Related info: Using Mobian Bookworm with Phosh 0.21.0-2~mobian1 and Chats 0.6.7 on a Pinephone Pro
Steps to reproduce
- In Chatty, go to the chat details in a chat dialog
- Click the add to contacts icon next to a participant in the chat from the list
Current behavior
No action occurs. The system log prints an error:
mobian chatty[2255]: Error saving to contacts: The named action ('new-contact-data') does not exist.
Expected behavior
Gnome Contacts launches and displays the new contact window allowing you to add a new contact with the intended phone number
Additional information
I have filed a bug with Chatty about this issue. It seems that Purism includes a patch to PureOS that creates the 'new-contact-data' method in their fork of Gnome Contacts. They initiated a MR for this but it was closed unmerged. The Gnome developer was open to revisiting this MR if the need arose in the future. The way I see it, there are two options to resolve this:
- Re-open the existing MR to add the 'new-contacts-data' method
- Change Chatty to abandon PureOS's patch to Gnome Contacts and use the already implemented 'new-contact' method
To my knowledge the previous version of Gnome Contacts (3.38) does not have this issue.
