handle links in the Location field
Putting links to videoconferencing links in the location field is pretty standard nowadays. The failure to handle those in gnome-calendar is the one thing keeping me from switching over from Google Calendar.
Google Calendar handles these pretty well, by recognizing specific urls (Zoom, Hangouts) in the location field. Google also gives you dedicated buttons to "Create Zoom Meeting"/"Add Google Meet videoconferencing" when creating a new event, which feels more legit than pasting a link into the "location" field. Would be cool to maybe allow a checkable list of standard conferencing providers here.
We could actually one-up Google by correctly handling phone numbers in the location field, which my Google Calendar annoyingly tries to open with Google Maps, rather than Google Voice / Hangouts / Skype whatever. (Honestly at this point I'm not sure why we don't have a Calendar standard that distinguishes physical location, online meeting url, and call-in phone numbers, but that's a little beyond the scope of this thread.)
Similar issues are #680 (closed) and #246, but these are specifically about the Notes field (and also about editability/non-editability of the field). Obviously people put links there all the time too so these are both important.
