Moving text cursor while holding CTRL strips whitespace
Normally, a user can use the arrow keys to navigate in a text field. For example, ←
to move one character to the left, and →
to move one character to the right.
On both Linux and Windows, one can use CTRL
+ ←
to move one word to the left, and CTRL
+ →
to move one word to the right in all text fields.
However, when I use the latter in the text box on GNOME Calculator, it strips the white spaces between numbers.
Demo
In this video, you can see me adding 3 numbers, with spaces around the operators.
- First I type all numbers as anyone might expect. This behaves as intended.
- Then I use the arrow keys (without holding
CTRL
) to move the text cursor to the start and end. This behaves as expected.- Then I use arrow keys (while holding
CTRL
) to move the text cursor word (or number in this case) at a time. But this removes whitespace.
Tested on
- gnome-calculator 43.0.1 (from Debian bookworm repos)
- gnome-calculator 44.0 (from Flathub)
Specs
OS: Debian 12
DE: GNOME 43.4
