Calculator interprets scientific format numbers as multiples of e

Description
If numbers are entered in the calculator in the standard scientific computing format with an "E" or "e" character to represent the exponent (i.e. 2.0E+01 == 20, or 2.0e-01 == 0.2), then the calculator either refuses to parse it (upper case) or misinterprets this format as referring to the 'e' natural variable.
I think this is an undesirable behaviour in both cases. It's useful to be able to e.g. copy numbers in %e format from a program output in a terminal and perform maths on them. Also, I'm not sure why the 'e' variable seems to be predefined and work without an explicit multiplication sign, when e.g. 'pi' is not known.
To reproduce: type a number into the entry box in %e format as above, and press return.
