Metaprojects with subprojects

Description
Would be cool if a project could be used as a meta project with several subprojects inside. It would be cool if we could easily switch between the subprojects while then everything else should be hidden (and we should access/manage global files – e.g. definitions, which affect more subprojects).
For example, I have a microcontroller running a webserver, and the corresponding website – and like to keep both in one meta project (for better synchronizing and cross-subproject definitions). I also have other projects where I have implementations for both the master and the slave – which also should better be managed by a meta project.
What do you think about this?
