Audio not working on GNOME-43 branch for PinePhone Pro and PinePhone
Closed to track branches and phones separately
- Master issue for PP-PRO and PP: #619 (closed)
- GNOME-43 issue for PP-PRO and PP: #620 (closed)
The PinePhone speakers are currently non functional. I have spent time on this, doing and observing the following:
Initially issue was the lack of kernal configurations leading to card not being detected
scripts/config -e SND_PROC_FS scripts/config -e SND_VERBOSE_PROCFS
The above 2 were added based on Gentoos website
We then needed scripts/config -e TMPFS_POSIX_ACL proposed by Valentin David because of ucassess issues
I then added from the Megous site all SND, Audio and Sound related kernel configurations: Link here
I also added Alsa Utils correctly
Current status: Pipewire service runs, the server is fine Similar case for WirePlumber
Audio card is detected in the phone
Result is: I cannot actually hear anything. We have dummyoutput only
pw.dot reveals the following node setup:
From what I understand: PipeWire believe the integration of their software inside GNOME is broken
They are telling me there is an issue with PAM, GDM and PipeWire. Here is the conversation link
On a positive note:
Music can be played using bluetooth headphones
Also using a physical earphone does show that the phone registers headphones are connected
Additionally,
When running commands like aplay -test or speaker-test they run fine
But physically you cannot hear anything
