Shared thumbnail repository support

Kenny Levinsen requested to merge kennylevinsen/glib:revive_shared_thumbnails into main

This MR revives the shared thumbnail patch, which pwithnall posted in #654 2 years ago, in order to bring it back on track. This will allow shared thumbnail repositories to finally get some mainstream support.
