Created attachment 348886 file icon
I have a file called _ABC with no extension on my desktop. It's a text file with just some casual notes written in plain Spanish, nothing in any machine language, and definitely nothing even remotely resembling C or any programming language for that matter.
The file should have a generic text-file icon. Instead, it has an icon with a "C" which I assume means it's a C file. Apparently it's because the first line starts with "//"
Guessing the file type by its content when there's no extension could be a nice feature if the guessing was reasonably reliable, but if it's going to be based on such ridiculously loose criteria as "it starts with // therefore it's C", then it's far better to not pretend to be smart, and just use a generic binary icon for binary files and a generic text icon for text files.
