Random segfaults in Gnome 40
Affected version
- Gnome-Shell version: 40.0.0 (Wayland)
- Distribution: Arch Linux
- Gnome-Shell package version: gnome-shell 1:40.0+67+g79acae417-1
- Kernel: 5.11.16-arch1-1 x86_64 GNU/Linux
- Graphics: AMD® Vegam / Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 630 (KBL GT2)
Bug summary
The current version of Gnome 40 frequently segfaults for no apparent reason.
Steps to reproduce
- The segfaults are random, and I cannot reproduce them deterministically yet. I will comment on this issue if I manage to deterministically trigger them.
- I have noticed that using Mattermost (either the Flatpak or the version from the Arch repos) tends to produce frequent crashes. However I could not pin down which specific action triggered the crash, and they still happen after uninstalling it.
Backtraces
Luckily, I managed to generate a few backtraces for several crashes (which may or may not have the same origin). Note that this required to manually rebuild gjs
and js78
with debug symbols (debug packages not being available on Arch...), which could in principle introduce additional issues. The first backtrace appeared multiple times, so I have included only the most recent instance.
Don't hesitate to ask me for any other information that could be relevant. I apologize for not being able to provide more specific information, but the random nature of these crashes makes it particularly difficult.
