Rescaling has a usability issue when switching between pixels and percent
Operating System: All
If you are working on an image where you are frequently rescaling layers, and you are switching between using the pixel measurement and using the percent measurement, it is too easy to make a mistake where you rescale a layer to 1800% when you meant to rescale it to 1800px. When you make this mistake, Gimp freezes up completely while it grinds away on this enormous calculation, and there is no way to abort out of it except by killing Gimp and losing your work.
Three solutions occur to me, which are (in ascending order of difficulty):
- Have a warning pop up if the operation seems unreasonable.
- Have the rescaling happen in the background, with some way to abort it from the GUI.
- Drag-rescaling would, of course, make the whole issue go away, and would arguably be more convenient in many use cases than typing in a number.
