Random memory usage spikes
Environment/Versions
- GIMP version: 2.10.32
- Package: extra/gimp 2.10.32-2
- Operating System: Arch Linux
Description of the bug
When doing various things, GIMP will randomly allocate massive amounts of memory, getting killed by the OOM handler instantly. This happens generally when e.g. opening a project, creating a new layer, changing opacity, etc.
Reproduction
- Open it in /bin/time
- Do various things, watch the memory usage
- Note that the peak reported by /bin/time is way higher than normal (4GB when opening a small project with a few layers)
Additional information
I haven't found anyone complaining about this, so either I'm the only one running into this issue, or people aren't aware it's crashing due to running out of memory. I've also not been able to reproduce this when running gimp in massif or other profilers, so any pointers on how to debug this would be welcome.
