GIMP crashes on first run on Windows if default terminal is Windows Terminal
Environment/Versions
- GIMP version: 2.10.28
- Package: Windows
Description of the bug
This bug happens only on first run when GIMP tries to query new plugins. It gets stuck and ultimately forces the user to crash the application.
Reproduction
It's 100% reproducible on a fresh GIMP installation on Windows 11 with Windows Terminal installed. GIMP version is 2.10.28.
Reproduction steps:
- Make sure to run Windows 11 (I did not test on Windows 10)
- Install Windows Terminal from the Microsoft Store
- Go to Windows Terminal settings (drow down arrow next to tab, then settings).
- In the startup category select Windows Terminal as default console application, then click save
- Install GIMP
- Launch GIMP, see that it gets stuck at the query new plugins step. …
Expected result: GIMP launches
Actual result: GIMP will never launch
Additional information
Workaround is to not set Windows Terminal as the default terminal (use the old Windows Console Host) for the first startup. After the first run then the default terminal can be changed to Windows Terminal and GIMP seems to load fine. I suspect that if GIMP goes and scan again for new plugins it may be stuck again.
