Saving metadata when exporting a newly created image fails
OS: Windows GIMP: master and probably 2.10.28 too.
- create a new image and draw on it.
- Select Export to jpg.
- In the export dialog select to save EXIF, XMP, IPTC, thumbnail, comment and then export.
Expected
- The comment should have been saved in EXIF (besides as a normal jpeg comment)
- Apps that can show the thumbnail should show it
- The history and GIMP name/version should be visible in the XMP metadata
- IPTC values for date and time created
Actual
- No EXIF (including thumbnail), XMP, IPTC metadata present
Possible solution
Currently, we do not initialize metadata when creating a new image in GIMP. It might make sense to start doing that, or else we have to check whether metadata is initialized when exporting. I haven't thought it through that much, but I don't see any real problems. It will only use a little extra storage for metadata in saved XCF files. It won't have any effect on exported images because that depends on the selected options for metadata saving.
