Gimp says it can't open file when first component of path is '/' (root) fx: /T1/u/xyz.jpg, or /media/m3/.... I can locate, see, open file using other programs (fx ls, vi, cat) and no peculiarities are noticeable in the permissions field of ls -l output. Description of the bug

- Find or create a directory whose pathname starts with '/', other than /home/i_the_user/...
- Copy a file into it.
- Try to open it.
