Give the user more control during operations that might take a long time to complete.
Operating System: n/a
Description of the feature
When GIMP performs an operation that might take a long time, GIMP should provide the user the opportunity to cancel the operation with a Cancel button:
The image is from #5358 (moved). 1. Put a Cancel button in there.
- Maybe even add a Pause button.
- If it makes sense, put a Stop button.
The difference between Stop and Cancel is that Cancel is effectively an undo. Stop would stop whatever GIMP was doing and leave the image as is. Again, Stop might not make any sense for some operations.
The reason for this is to provide the user control over his or her computer as much as possible.
Use cases
- For whatever reason, the Matting Levin engine is taking "forever". There's no way to stop it without killing GIMP. I have to use the OS, which isn't user friendly.
