Gimp 2.10 crashes since I moved to Lubuntu 19.10
I have been struggling with Gimp 2.10 crashes since I moved to Lubuntu 19.10 (from 18). There are two main triggers to the crashing.
1.During the process of cutting a large area. The washing-machine wheel starts spinning for ten seconds or so & then the crash sometimes takes out the image cutting leaving Gimp or other times it crashes out of gimp all-together.
- The other is triggered by Gaussian blurs. The Slice of cake indicator is incredibly slow & fails to get to the end before the crashes gimp. This also slows other operations but they don't normally crash (now OK after reinstall)
I am I did have it a while ago just after I upgraded to 2.10 from 1.?? but it went away. Today I tried removing gimp & reinstalling. After the re-installation Gimp was all OK with regard to crashing during the cut process. When I started adding plugins however the problem came back. Yesterday (with several plugins installed) the crashing was also associated with Gaussian blurs & was slowing down other operations. When I reinstalled it was OK (no crashing or slowing with cutting or other operations. When I installed G'mic the crash was only during copy operations. It seems to me as if gimp can keep track of its own memory allocations but is not able to do so with some of its plugins.
I am reluctant,at the moment, to put back the other plugins that were slowing everything down because I need the system in working order.I will try some more diagnostics when I have less to do. One that I know that has caused problems in the past was "the gimp-plugin-registry 9.20180625" that I installed with the Synaptic Package Manager. I no longer have that installed.
