Preferences option to convert to Preferred RGB profile doesn't work
Using GIMP-2.10 from git updated through 727b83cb, if I select eg "ClayRGB" as the preferred RGB profile, "Keep" and "Ask" work as selected. But "Convert to preferred RGB color profile" always converts the image to built-in sRGB regardless of what preferred RGB profile was selected in Preferences.
So, for example, if in Preferences "ClayRGB" is chosen as the preferred RGB profile, and the option is selected to "Convert to preferred RGB color profile", and a Rec2020 image is opened, then instead of being converted to ClayRGB (as was chosen in Preferences), the image is converted to built-in sRGB. It gets worse: Even if Rec2020 is chosen as the preferred RGB profile, and "Convert to preferred" is selected, the image is still converted to built-in sRGB.
This behavior is clearly wrong. Here's a screenshot showing the misleading Preferences option:
Maybe the "Preferences" option to convert an image opened from disk to a user-chosen preferred RGB profile should simply be removed, or at least temporarily hidden until such time as the option actually works?
The larger problem of course is that even the latest version of GIMP-2.10 still has hard-coded sRGB parameters scattered through the code (see #594 (closed) ), and so produces wrong results for many editing operations for non-sRGB images. And if the image is converted to built-in sRGB, for many other operations results are going to be different in sRGB than they would have been in the user's preferred RGB working space.
So perhaps on start-up there could be a message saying "Work is being done to support editing in RGB color spaces other than GIMP's built-in sRGB color space. But in this version of GIMP editing in color spaces other than GIMP's built-in sRGB is not fully supported."
This bug report is mostly copied from #3477 (closed) - which has been narrowed down to a single issus, that being that the tooltip text for dealing with ICC profiles on opening an image is not exactly easy to understand.
Tested on GIMP-2.10 using GIMP-2.10 from git built on Gentoo Linux. Probably also affects GIMP-2.99, but I didn't check to confirm.
