Grouping of font families

It would help me a lot, if there was a Favorite function for fonts. A font marked as favorite could be found on top of the list. Or at least "recently used", so I can use same font on different file without searching it in the list and compare if its the same.
I have a lot of fonts installed on my system and when I am searching the font list in GIMP, each sub-font is displayed on its own. This makes a huge list out of the same font. Sub fonts are in example variations of normal: italic, bold, light and even combinations of them or in different bold strokes. It only needs a handful font families to make the list a bit too long. So, my suggestion is to group up fonts with same name and only variations in the name. Often font families start with same name and a dash. In example, it could be shown like this, if it detects sub fonts:
- Structure
[-] FreeMono
| ------ FreeMono
| ------ FreeMono Bold
| ------ FreeMono Bold Italics
. ------ FreeMono Italics
- Radio Buttons
Or maybe for each font are radio buttons, but only for those sub categories where sub fonts are detected, like this:
o Normal
o Bold
* Bold Italics
o Italics
- Checkmark Buttons
Or like this. If a combination is not possible, then it will grey out. Or say, if Bold is not available for that font, then GIMP uses its own calculation, based on the font tool already available.
[x] Bold
[x] Italics
At the moment GIMP shows me like this:
And I have even bigger Font Families installed. The file structure on my system looks like this for one of those:
This would make my life easier, as I often work with different fonts and try new free ones out. There could be a checkmark in the options to allow or disallow grouping.
