Paste As new image stopped working (Why is Crop tool selected by default instead of Rectangle select?)
Hi, I typically use GIMP to open a camera JPG image, do a rectangular select on some area of interest, right-click and select Copy and then again right-click and do Paste -> As new image. This stopped working for me on Gentoo Linux around media-gfx/gimp-2.9.8-r1 or later with media-gfx/gimp-2.10.6-r1. Instead, whole original image is pasted as the new image.
emerge -pv gimp
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] media-gfx/gimp-2.10.6-r1:2::gentoo USE="alsa doc postscript python udev wmf -aalib (-altivec) (-aqua) -debug -gnome -jpeg2k -mng -openexr -smp -test -vector-icons -webp -xpm" CPU_FLAGS_X86="mmx sse" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7" 0 KiB
Damn, after more poking around I realized the rectangle being drawn has some kind of a paint brush adjacent to it and that this is actually a Crop tool instead of Renctangle select. Why is my GIMP starting up with Crop tools selected instesd of the Rectangle select? Is this so often needed tool that it is selected by default on startup?
