Importing and exporting images takes ages when slow VPN drives are mapped
GIMP version: 2.10.6
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional SP 1 x64
Package: Windows Installer from gimp.org
Description of the bug
Importing or exportig images takes ages on local drives. When I drag a JPG file from explorer to GIMP it takes ages to import the image. When I export an image e. g. as PNG, it takes ages until the export dialogue appears. The file picker dialogue appears instantly.
I have always mapped two drive letters for shares on a remote server that is connected through a VPN connection over a slow internet connection.
This doesn't matter for any software I'm using for opening or saving files on local drives, just with GIMP this is a problem.
When I delete these mappings, importing and exporting with GIMP works as fast as expected on local drives.
Reproduction
Is the bug reproducible? Always
Reproduction steps:

- Map a drive letter (e. g. net use x: \server.example.org\share)
- Try to import or export an image from/to a local drive with GIMP.
…
Expected result: image is imported immediately/image export dialogue appears immediately after file picker dialogue
Actual result: import takes ages/export dialoge takes ages to appear after file picker dialogue
