Metadata not saved reliably - saved JPG suddenly has no GIMP-written metadata
GIMP-2.10.4
While testing and writing bug reports, I repeated these steps several times. The first time, and then something like the 10th time I ended up with a JPG file with none of the metadata I wrote with GIMP. The 2nd - 9th times the metadata was intact. The first 9 times I did not set the IPTC Extension > Image Creator field. The 10th time I set it, so it couldn't have caused the JPEG in the first attempt to not have any metadata, but it may have caused the 10th attempt. Worth mentioning.
- Create a new image,
- Edit metadata, set:
- Description > Document title:
###title
- Description > Keywords:
###kw1 ###kw2, ###kw3
- Description > Copyright notice:
###copyright
- IPTC > Address:
###address
- IPTC Extension > Person shown:
###personshown
- IPTC Extension > Image Creator. I set it to
###iptcext_imagecreator
and identifier to###iptcext_identifier
. This part seems important.
- Description > Document title:
- Click "Write Metadata".
- Save as PNG and JPG, with all metadata boxes ticked.
- Examine the JPG and PNG using ExifTool and Exiv2. When this bug is triggered, the JPG returns none of the metadata I wrote in GIMP.
XCF, JPEG and PNG attached.
