Caching of renders
@Jehan
Submitted by Jehan Link to original bug (#793099)
Description
When you have a lot of layers and big image size, render is not instant so the viewport can be updated in up to a few seconds. This is of course acceptable (there is always a point where you will get to wait, the more you grow your contents).
But sometimes you may test to switch a layer on and off several times, or switch several layers for comparison, etc. It would be nice to have a cache of a previous combination of layers so that if I hit a recent cache, we could just reuse it directly instead of re-rendering the GEGL tree, and therefore switching layer visibility on/off several times would be slow only the first time, but then would be instant.
This kind of caching could be implemented in GIMP or in GEGL, I guess.
