Document the exclusive switch ability in item dockables
A common behavior to the Visibility and Lock icons in various item dockables (e.g. the Layers dockable) is the Shift-click
exclusive switch (and more recently the Alt-click
alternative).
The Shift-click
interaction is briefly explained in there: https://testing.docs.gimp.org/2.99/en_GB/gimp-dialogs-structure.html#gimp-layer-dialog-using
Shift-clicking on the eye causes all other to be hidden.
I think we should all the info that it hides and shows "all other on the same level", and also it's not always hiding, but it can be showing too. Maybe something like this:
Shift-clicking on the eye causes all other same-level layers to be shown or hidden alternatively.
?
The second change is that we also have a new interaction (which comes with the multi-selection ability):
Alt-clicking on the eye causes all other selected layers to be shown or hidden alternatively.
I.e. the same thing as Shift-click except that it works on selected items instead of same-level items.
Moreover the "Chain layers" icon should be removed (it doesn't exist anymore) and replaced by the "Lock" icon which opens a small popup with multiple locks.
Last but not least, each of these indidivual lock icons has the same interaction, working exactly the same, regarding Shift or Alt-clicking, allowing to lock or unlock a bunch of layers in the same time in 1 or 2 clicks.
Note: this was also explained in the specification here: https://developer.gimp.org/core/specifications/locks/#exclusive-visibilitylocks-switch
Though this spec is only about the locks, the exclusive-switching part of the spec is valid for both visibility and locks.
