the Fuzzy selection (Magic wand) help doesn't mention all Select by choices or guide you
https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-tool-fuzzy-select.html#tool-fuzzy-select-options says
Selection by
With this option you can choose which component of the image GIMP shall use to calculate the similarity.
The components you can choose from are Red, Green, Blue, Hue, Saturation and Value.
When I look at the Fuzzy Select Tool's Tool Options the GIMP Flatpak version 2.10.24 from Flathub, app/org.gimp.GIMP/x86_64/stable:
- This option is named "Select by", not "Selection".
- There are several more choices; the drop-down includes Composite, Red, Green, Blue, Alpha, HSV Hue, HSV Saturation, LCh Lightness, LCh Chroma, LCh Hue.
- The "shall use" future tense here and in some other option help is inelegant and doesn't match the earlier Finding Similar Colors phrasing.
It would be great if the help provided some guidance or suggestion when to choose a different component from this long list. (FWIW I'm trying to select some fuzzy black text on an orange-ish background in a JPEG, but it's not clear what would do better that the default Composite.) If there's a help section on color spaces and/or components this should link to it.
Finally (sorry), earlier on this page "See Selection tools for help with options that are common..." should link to https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-tools-selection.html#gimp-tool-select-options
