gedit 40.1 on Fedora Silverblue beta 35 view jumping about after using mouse scroll and click
I'm using gedit that comes with Fedora Silverblue beta 35 (called Text Editor in the Gnome menu). I'm getting strange behaviour navigating a text file using a mouse and it's scroll wheel. If I scroll off of the visible page of text, either up or down, then the view jumps to somewhere else - which is very confusing. Apologies that the previous sentence might not make much sense so I will give a basic example:
- I have a text file with 125 lines in it. It's a log file from a server.
- If I open the file, I see lines 1 to 54 and the cursor is flashing at character 1, line 1.
- If I scroll down with my mouse wheel and try to put the cursor onto the last character (col180) on line 125.
- This causes gedit to scroll back up to the top of the file and show lines 1 to 54.
- The cursor has been correctly put at the end of the file because if I type the "hello", the view jumps back down and shows me typing at the end of the line.
This doesn't always happen for some reason and I can't quite work out why.
I saw more of an issue when I was trying to look at a longer server log file and I was trying to highlight a time and then scroll up or down to investigate other log messages. The view would jump all over the place. I ended up having to install Geany and not use gedit.
Hopefully you should be able to recreate the issue by opening a large text file (over 100 lines) and trying to scroll and click at the bottom and then the top.
If you need anymore information let me know.
