Correct german abbreviations get marked as incorrect by the spellchecker
If the spellchecker is enabled and set to Deutsch (*)
(The selected country does not seem to matter therefore i used a *
) abbreviations like usw.
, bzw.
, etc. get marked/underlined as incorrect even though the spellchecker seems to know them since the suggestions on right-click do suggest the correct spelling, but on using the replacement it replaces e.g. bzw.
with bzw..
(so it seems to ignore the .
when checking for some reason).
This does not seem to happen to English abbreviations like etc.
so it may be a localization thing.
This happens in Gedit 3.36.2
on Fedora 32 (Workstation Edition) 64-bit with GNOME-Version 3.36.9
.
Steps to reproduce:
- Enable the
Spell Checker
in... (menu) ▸ Preferences ▸ Plugins
- Go to
... (menu) ▸ Tools ▸ Set Language
- Select
German (Germany)
- Run the spell checker in
... (menu) ▸ Tools ▸ Check Spelling...
or enable... (menu) ▸ Tools ▸ Highlight Misspelt Words
for continuous checking - Write any of the the abbreviation-strings:
usw.
,bzw.
,etc.
,.. into the main (text) window - Now these actually correct strings should be incorrectly marked as incorrect.
