Document statistics: special case for URLs
Moin.
When viewing the document statistics of a file simply containing https://example.com/xyz
, it's counted differently in gedit than other things:
- gedit (3.32.0) counts it as 1 line, 4 words, 23 characters and 23 bytes.
- wc (coreutils 8.30) counts it as 1 line, 1 word, 24 bytes
- libreoffice (6.2.5) counts it as 1 word, 23 characters, 0 asian syllables
As for the bytecount, I'm not sure whether wc or gedit is off-by-one, but this basically never becomes a problem anyways.
The wordcount is a different story. For example, homework for students, or contest rules for writing contests may specify minimum and maximum lengths based on wordcount. And gedit's wordcount always is inflated compared to what other people might use because it counts to-day
, I'm
and gedit's
as two words each, whereas wc and libreoffice count those as one.
