Escape key doesn't work to return to the e-mail list in compact view
Bug Summary
Geary doesn't provide a quick way of getting back to the e-mail list with a keyboard shortcut
Your installation
To obtain installation information, copy it from Geary's Problem Report dialog if shown (or else open the Geary Inspector by typing Shift + Alt + I) by selecting System, and clicking the Copy button, then pasting here.
- Geary version: 40.0
- Installation method: flathub
- Desktop environment: GNOME
- Operating system and version: Fedora 34
- Email provider: Isn't relevant
Steps to reproduce
- Open Geary
- Resize it so it's on only the mail list view
- Click on an e-mail
- Press the Escape key
What happened?
What did Geary do that was unexpected? Nothing has happened, unfortunately
When in smaller mode of the two adaptive modes, reading an e-mail, there is no easy way to go back to the list of e-mails with a keyboard shortcut such as Escape or with the back mouse button (as used on some mice in browsers). Similarly, Alt+Arrow Left didn't work either.
To close the current e-mail and get back to the e-mail list, one must either point and click on the button in the top left, or use Tab and then Enter when on the correct button.
What did you expect to happen? On pressing Escape or using the back button on my mouse, I would expect to get back to the list of e-mails
