Regression: new login design breaks with small changes to text scaling factor
(Avatar/username blanked out by me.)
Issues (on user widget):
- Vertical grey bar at right of user box.
- Gradient across bottom edge.
To reproduce, set the text scaling factor to e.g. 0.8 with:
sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 0.8
I am aware that Edit: Per gnome-shell#2464 (comment 747710), text-scaling-factor
is probably "not supported", however:text-scaling-factor
is supposed to be supported.
- GDM with GNOME 3.34 handled this gracefully (as has the rest of GNOME for many releases). It would be great to not go backwards here and lose the ability to globally adjust font size within reason.
- GDM probably shouldn't rely on font specifics to position UI elements properly - it would seem to suggest that the layout logic is brittle and will break more widely at some point (e.g. if the default GNOME fonts are tweaked or changed).
I'm not 100% clear on how the new GDM design is being shown by the way - the version I'm using (from Fedora 32) is 3.34.1, which is the last tag on here too, but it's definitely the new 3.36 login/lock design as publicised by GNOME.
