Freezes when trying to login after standby wakeup (while still searching for wifi?)

Description
I regularly experience freezes in the login manager on a laptop/netbook. These freezes seem to happen inside of gdm, because they happen after I enter the password and press enter, but before any desktop screen or so is shown. Not even a grey area or black screen is shown, but actually I can still see the password input box.
STR:
- Login, close laptop (i.e. go to standby)
- Open it, directly type in your password and press enter. (without much delay!, as you usually do when you just want to unlock it in a fast way)
What happens: Freeze. (details above) What should happen: unlock…
What I tried:
- Wait some seconds/or move the mouse (device is touch-capable, so I thought that could be an issue) before logging in. That did even work in most cases, but one time I clearly moved my mouse, but gdm froze anyway.
- I noticed that the wifi icon was still searching for WLANs, i.e. did not properly restore the connection yet. I think if you try to unlock the device in such a state, it freezes. When you wait a few seconds until the connection is established, it works.
I am of course not sure, whether that is the real cause, but it could be. The device has an ethernet plug, so I could try to reproduce it without wifi, if needed. (or just in flight mode, or so…)
