GDM login does not recognize docking station or state of the lid when thinkfinger is installed

Description
If my laptop is in the docking station with it's lid closed and the screen locked gdm (I believe its gdm doing this?) requests me to swipe my finger on the finger print reader. Of course thats impossible because the lid is closed. I have to click on "switch user" then select my userid, then I can enter the password.
There are other inconsistencies depending on whether the laptop was suspended when I put it in the docking station or not.
Opening and closing the lid in this situation plays havoc with the nouveau screen driver in that it switches to the internal monitor when the lid is closed and I have to go through quite a procedure to get it to recognize the external monitor in this case.
I realize that this will be very difficult to confirm or fix without a laptop and a docking station, so I will happily test or contribute to a fix. I just don't know what scripts are responsible for this behavior (or, for that matter, what language they're in). Please do tell...
My machine is a Lenovo thinkpad T61P running FC13. I will provide any debug logging or config info requested. Obviously I have the thinkfinger rpm installed. wcn
