File roller can't open gzipped file without extension
Archive Manager (file-roller
) uses the filename extension to determine if it can open a gzipped file or not. Ubuntu 18.04, archive manager 3.28.0.
mkdir testdir
touch testdir/testfile
# Create xz archive without extension and open it
tar -Jcvf testxz testdir
file-roller testxz # RESULT: file-roller shows the archive
# Create gz archive without extension and open it
tar -zcvf testgz testdir
file-roller testgz # RESULT: file-roller shows "archive type not supported"
mv testgz testgz.tar
file-roller testgz.tar # RESULT: file-roller opens the file
Archive Manager should always use the magic bits to determine what the archive type is.
