Has Evolution just moved hudreds of emails to junk despite being told not to do so?
I am not certain Evolution is the culprit here but I am still posting this because of severity of it, just in case:
Evolution version 3.32.4 (by Flathub.org)
I connected today to a shared workspace email account (IMAP), it is catch-all server used by a ca. dozen colleagues. We mostly use Thunderbird, few ppl use Mac in some way, there is also a webmail client.
- I specifically disallowed "apply filters to new messages in all folders" and "check new messages for Junk (sic) contents" in the account settings.
- "Preferences / Mail Preferences / Junk / Check incoming messages for junk" was however checked as I noticed only later. (I unchecked it then.)
- I have another account (Gmail, added earlier) which does have "apply filters to new messages in inbox on this server" ticked - might that be related?
Also today pretty much everyone started missing emails because they were moved to the junk folder. Those include whole conversations - emails that were replied to (!). Now:
- I do not see a way to open any sort of log in the interface to see whether Evolution struck those emails
- I cannot figure out how to reveal which emails were moved by Evolution (at least those without my interaction)
- journalctl does not show anything either
Is there anything else I can try? I still have not closed the client and I am out of ideas how to fix this (if it was my fault at all). You can imagine my client is very high on the suspect list.
On IRC one user suggested that Evolution "checks for \Junk flag. When it's set, it moves all those messages to the Junk folder, if a real one is set." If I understand it correctly the idea is that any one of many other clients might have flagged those emails but not moved them. Is that the case?
