Illustrator files (.ai) crash on Ubuntu
As far as I know, Illustrator files are just PDF files with a bunch of proprietary things around it, but still standard PDF files at their core. If you rename an .ai
file to .pdf
, it opens nicely in Evince and the different artboards are displayed as pages.
I have tonnes of Illustrator files, and I would love to be able to preview them in Gnome instead of renaming them or importing them in Inkscape each time I want to access their content.
So here’s the issue: could we get Illustrator files opened by default in Evince? I don’t think it requires so much work beyond somehow binding the format as compatible with Evince.
Additionally, Nautilus should generate thumbnails for them, and the quick preview thing (spacebar on a file) should be able to display them as well.
Thanks!
