Data loss issue: downloading overwrites without prompt when "Ask on download" is enabled
To reproduce
-
Enable "Ask on download".
-
Pick any URL that will prompt for a download, but don't open the URL yet. For this example, I'll use Web's README.md from this repo.
-
Create an empty file in the target download directory with the same name. For this example I'll use
~/Downloads
:touch ~/Downloads/README.md
-
Open the URL in the browser.
-
When Web shows the "Download requested" prompt, choose the target directory ("Downloads" in this example), and click "Download".
Actual result
Web silently overwrites the existing file with the same name.
Expected result
Web either prompts for a new name, or auto-renames the file (e.g. README(1).md
).
Further info
- GNOME Web version: 40.6, on Fedora via RPM.
- If "Ask on download" is disabled, Web correctly auto-renames the file instead of clobbering the existing one.
