The "Type" metadata should reflect the actual image format, regardless of extension
In the metadata pane, the "Type" information seemingly depends on the extension in the filename, instead of the actual file encoding format.
This is very misleading, because for displaying the actual image, EOG is smart enough to not rely on the extension, so a mislabeled file will be decoded and will show correctly. But the metadata will not reflect the format that was used to decode the file.
To reproduce: Get any JPEG file, rename it something.png
. Open it, EOG should decode and show the picture correctly, but the "Type" will display "PNG file".
