Error interpreting JPEG image file (Backing store not supported) with Large Jpegs
On Fedora 36 & 37 branched latest update (eog-42.2-1) since a few days ago:
Throughout the system, EoG as well as GNOME Shell desktop backgrounds and Files thumbnails, attempting to open any jpeg over ~7mb in size results in the following error (or simply a blank desktop background or no thumbnail in Files).
It just started since a few days ago. The last WORK respin as of August 16th does not have this bug. It struck Ubuntu this past May, and it happened in 2017 too. The culprit was libtiff setting a very low max memory for jpgs images, and libjpeg-turbo follows that setting. I have already reported this regression possibility to the libtiff maintainer(s). I am reporting this here to let you know under the assumption that EoG possibly includes an updated bugged libtiff, or maybe it was GTK4, which was also in yesterday's update which destroyed large jpg usage in Fedora. Kinda sucks. My competence Re: this issue has reached its end. Good luck, fellas.
