Viewing multiple images side by side in the same application window
A neat feature that I miss from Gwenview during my KDE days is the ability to view multiple images side by side. It's useful for quickly comparing a bunch of images without having to open additional windows. It works by simply selecting more than one image from the thumbnail gallery. Selecting multiple images is already possible in EoG but it has no effect (only the last image in order is displayed).
Here is a crude mockup of what the feature does:
Some notes:
- Images are added to the view in the order in which they are selected
- Gwenview can display up to six images in this mode (I guess anything above that just isn't practical/useful).
- The layout is different for the different number of images - two and three images are displayed side by side, four, five and six images are spread over two rows
- A single image among the chosen ones is highlighted and this is used for feeding parts of the UI that pertain to single image info (e.g. the side pane, titlebar and so on). The user can choose which image to highlight by clicking on it in the view.
- Previous/Next buttons become irrelevant in this mode and should be hidden
- A button to deselect a given image can be added to the view (revealed when hovering an image)
