Add keyboard shortcut to DIM SCREEN (without locking it)
Settings > Power > Blank Screen allows one to set a countdown before the screen dims.
I request that a keyboard shortcut be created that can cause the screen to Dim on command (equivalent to tapping the side button on an iPhone or Android smartphone for example). A problem I run into with GNOME is that in this order: I step away from my computer, a message arrives (e.g., email), then the screen dims. I return to computer and the screensaver (that shows the time) reports no new messages because the email arrived before the screen dimmed.
If I could tap a keyboard shortcut to make the screen dim before I leave my station, then new notifications would show on the screensaver when I check it later on.
Please note that I work in an individual office where it is unnecessary to lock the screen for simply stepping away to use the bathroom, etc. So I do NOT want the screen to lock. CTRL+L will dim screen on demand but it also locks the screen. I ask that another keyboard shortcut be added (or be made create-able) that will allow users to dim the screen without necessarily locking the screen. Creating this keyboard shortcut will help conserve energy, make it easier to check for messages, and give users better control over managing their work flow.
