Cannot open ".rdp" files
The GNOME Connections tool doesn't currently have the ability to open .rdp
files. While the ability to merely save RDP connection settings may be sufficient for some, the absence of the ability to open .rdp
files directly makes it unusable for many people working remotely from unsecured networks.
Many remote access management tools in the corporate world (e.g. BeyondTrust's "Remote Access Console") provide client machines with the ability to securely access workstations over RDP. While these tools manage authentication themselves, some of them can also open non-standard ports on the client machines in order to allow third-party RDP clients (e.g. Remmina) to access the remote hosts indirectly. Because the remote access management tool changes the local port number on the client machine for each new RDP session, it also generates a new .rdp
file for each new session.
The following is an example of such a file's contents:
full address:s:127.0.0.1:49693
autoreconnection enabled:i:0
If GNOME Connections is to be the preferred RDP client for the GNOME Desktop—as opposed to Remmina—this feature needs to be added.
