Pixelated pavucontrol icon, Debian+GNOME Shell
On a clean install of Debian 12 (bookworm) with GNOME, the PulseAudio volume control icon appears to be pixelated/low-res in the GNOME Shell Applications Overview. The pavucontrol.desktop
desktop entry is using the icon multimedia-volume-control
.
I've manually "fixed" this by copying the higher-res icon from the gnome-icon-theme icons,
/usr/share/icons/gnome/256x256/apps/multimedia-volume-control.png
to a new Adwaita 256x256 directory:
/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/256x256/legacy/multimedia-volume-control.png
.
Then I updated the icon cache (on Wayland) with:
update-icon-caches /usr/share/icons/Adwaita/*
. Now the pavucontrol launcher looks normal in GNOME Shell.
I'm guessing this is not best practice. Is this an issue with pavucontrol, or should Adwaita include a higher-resolution icon?
grep /usr/share/applications/pavucontrol.desktop -e "^Icon="
yields Icon=multimedia-volume-control
gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme
yields 'Adwaita'
