Document Saving Dialog
Hi all,
the process of saving changes to a document is currently possible only
- via
Ctrl+s
- via
Save As
and we have to choOse a file name, potentially having to grant permission to overwrite the file itself.
This is not straight forward or simple, hence the idea of a dialog, e.g.
+-------------------+
Save or Discard ?
+===================+
Save as Copy
+-------------------+
Discard Changes
+-------------------+
Apply Changes
+-------------------+
Cancel
+-------------------+
see also Teams/Design/whiteboards#169 for nice mockups and discussions.
The advantage is then, that apart from Save as Copy
saving changes is just one click away, e.g.
- from a Hamburger Menu entry, e.g.
Save or Discard
- a header bar button () appearing only if changes to the document are made
- when closing the app.
In the above dialog options
-
Discard
~ changes applied get removed -
Apply Changes
~ file is modified
are both principally destructive, Discard
for sure, but also Apply Changes
, if the original file state cannot be undone later on.
Is undoing always easily doable or feasible at all, see GNOME/evince#1924?
