Needs poppler-glib update: Scanned PDFs with an invisible OCR text layer from Adobe Scan cannot be searched, and selecting text blocks the background
Sample file: Papers_Evince_invisible_OCR_text_selection_color_benchmark_-_sample_file.pdf
Problems:
- Search doesn't work, even for cases where Okular is able to find a complete word (such as "shooting" or "field")
- Selecting the text with the mouse (or
Ctrl+A
) masks the view underneath, whereas Okular is somehow able to composite it when the selected text is an invisible foreground color.
Demonstration of the problems:

This affects Evince and Papers identically, but does not affect Okular, so presumably this is not a Poppler issue.
The closest I found in Evince was GNOME/evince#1174 (closed) leading to GNOME/evince#953 (closed) which led to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/-/issues/157 which... was supposedly fixed. In any case, the fact that Okular is unaffected hints at a problem in Papers/Evince rather than the backend. Maybe @gpoo would have an idea what may be the problem?
