are asterisks as contained in files confusing?
Two searches in which I used asterisks in the Contains the Text field failed. I did not intend them as wildcards, but there seems no way to tell the app that.
The searches were in a directory containing subdirectories. The directory was on a local flash drive. I did not name the files in the app. All of the files of interest were .txt files. The search included hidden and backup files. One search was for "****** " (seven consecutive asterisks and a trailing space but without quotation marks). It yielded all 12 files, but only one actually contained the string (I searched each one using gedit's ctrl-f internal Find command. The other search was for "(home *****)" (five consecutive asterisks after a space but without quotation marks). It found nothing, even though one actually contained the string (I searched each one using gedit's ctrl-f internal Find command. (If saying I used asterisks was redundant here, I'm glad; I was concerned that email software would treat asterisks as markup for boldfacing and not show them explicitly.)
