Suggesting a change for a misleading highlight in the file save dialogue
Hello, I'm not sure if I'm making this suggestion in the right place. In my example I'll show a save dialogue from the PDF document viewer but it happens in many applications when you choose Save as...
This Save/Save as... dialogue shows the filename highlighted, which is nice and expected. Normally, I'd want to start typing there to adjust the filename. However, if I need to change where the file is stored, I click into a folder within the mid portion of this panel (where I can navigate my file/folder structure). The file Name field at the top remains highlighted as if that is my focus. So after selecting where I want to save the file, I start typing with the expectation that I'm naming my file. However, in spite of the file Name field being highlighted, the focus seems to remain on the file/folder structure and so my typing instead shows a small field to enter a path below the file Name. This is confusing because one must actually click on the file Name field to edit its text even though it is highlighted, appearing to be active.
A couple ways that I could suggest to potentially reduce confusion would be if a person clicks on a folder, that it stop highlighting the file's Name box at the top until the user clicks it to put the focus back there. Alternatively, leave the highlighting but make that field actually keep its focus so that when the user starts typing it really is changing what appears there. Thank you.
