Audio and Video Get Out of Sync

Description
During long conversations the audio and video get out of sync from each other (with the audio lagging behind the audio significantly). The lag becomes very noticable after an hour.
I believe this is a problem with the audio/video encoder. This seems to be a pretty common problem when transcoding video on many systems. I was unable to make SIP work, so I wasn't able to rule out this being a jabber problem.
I've set the status to minor because an easy work-around is to restart the call.
[Steps to Reproduce]
- Both users are using Empathy and Google-Talk accounts (we used telepathy-gabble)
- Make a video+audio call, just a regular right-click and "Video Call"
- Stay in the call for about an hour
- Clap your hands in front of the camera
[Expected Results] Your hands will touch each other in the video at the same time they make a loud sound.
[Actual Results] The video and audio are significantly out of sync: after an hour-long video chat the clap is of by a few seconds.
[Attempted Fixes]
- Restarting the conversation (ie, hang up and call again). This re-syncs the audio/video, but it then gets out of sync again.
- I tried searching varients of "empathy audio video sync" on both google and this bugzilla with no results.
