I've created a separate ticket (#1290) for storing tags in EXIF data. That
might or might not happen for 0.5.

Comment 6

The baseline for this commit includes:
* Tags listed in the sidebar (alphabetically)
* Tag evaporation (tags disappear when no photo has that tag)
* Edit list of tags for a single photo (dialog box, comma-separated list, no autocompletion or other fanciness)

After a design discussion, we decided that this ticket applies to a text-based
search filter.
Typing into the box does a substring-match filter on:
* Title
* Base filename
* Tags
* Event name
The result of this is ANDed with the ratings filter.
For the time being, this will only show on normal collection pages, i.e. not a
camera, trash, offline, or any of the event listing pages.

We'll probably soon support organizing photos both by tag and by on-disk
folder, and I think we probably don't need yet another folder-ish organization
mechanism. Marking as wontfix.

I'd forgotten that this had been closed. I'm reopening.
I'm unconvinced that our current organizational schemes really are sufficient.
From watching the mailing list for years now, it seems to me that what's
happened is users have worked _around_ our organizational schemes in order to
get what they want out of Shotwell. If Shotwell offered Albums, many of these
workarounds would be unnecessary.
An Album scheme would offer the following:
* Any album hierarchy the user prefers
* Photos selectively added and arranged to an album in whatever order the user prefers
* A custom name
* Does not affect commonly-used photo metadata, even if metadata writing is turned on

Original description:
We should improve layout margins as follows:
1) The top row of photos are flush with the menu bar at the top of the window.
We should have some space between these.
2) The horizontal distance between photos in a row is noticeably larger than
the horizontal distance between the edge of the window and photos in the
leftmost or rightmost column. It would look nicer if these were the same.

It's getting better, but can use improvement:
* Color is still fugly.
* Could use it to display progress indicator for photo importing.
* Organization and additional top-level items should be discussed.

With new editing scheme, rotating photos that do not have EXIF is a snap.
