Need for translator comments and contexts
There are some qualifiers or strings that would need a comment or context to be better understood and translated:
- Synchronisation frequencies at schedule.rs (lines 37 to 40): in some languages, these words can be translated differently depending on the grammatical gender of what they refer too (typically masculine or feminine), i.e. "Monthly" can be "Mensuel" or "Mensuelle" in French. In our case, they refer to the synchronisation frequency, which is feminine in French
- "Repair" in "Repair errors" at dialog.ui line 39 can be understood as a verb or a noun, thus translated differently
I only noticed them while using the application, as the translation didn't match the context where it was used. There might be more of them that I couldn't find.
Could you update main
branch, and maybe v0.7.x
as you still support this release ?
Thanks !
For info:
Comments don’t change strings, so they can safely be added without breaking the freeze. I would still announce them and ask that translators go back to the file to check if their translations are correct.
Contexts create new strings. Depending on how much time there is for translators between when the fix lands and the release, I would possibly delay that part until right after the release. Arguably, a translation with an incorrect grammatical gender is better than an untranslated string.
