Trouble with a cover image

Bug
At some point, a certain cover image has taken root throughout the system, appearing everywhere where no image has yet been selected, as you can see in the attached screenshot. Normally, you would expect a certain icon to show that the image has yet to be determined. But this image has not only nested as a placeholder for the albums, but also for very many titles. In the Linux file manager I normally see thumbnails of the selected album cover. But unfortunately there very often is also this "aggressive" image, although the album has long since another. This is unfortunately problematic, because my Windows program (currently Dopamine) and also another Linux program (Sayonara) because of these "corpses" of the title thumbnails very often do not show the current cover, but this "evil" image and can't refresh them. With EasyTag I can delete the unwanted title thumbnails. Unfortunately there are estimated hundreds of them!
Conclusion: The saving of the desired covers does not run (or ran) correcly. What could solve this? How can I delete the hundreds of wrong thumbnails from the system?
