Quit keyboard shortcuts
Related to #106
In Shell, currently there are 3 ways to quit an application via a keyboard shortcut:
- Alt+F4
- Ctrl+Q
- Super+0+Q
All of these have different behavior, but none of them offer a way to consistently quit an application with a single keyboard shortcut.
Alt+F4
Drawbacks:
- To quit an application, the main window needs to be in focus.
- Not ergonomic.
- Not intuitive.
Ctrl+Q
Drawbacks:
- To quit an application, the main window needs to be in focus.
- Needs to be implemented per-app. (Though most GNOME apps implement it.)
Super+0+Q
Drawbacks:
- Automatically sets your focus to the next app in the application switcher afterwards.
- Not ergonomic.
- Not intuitive.
Proposal
A global shortcut that:
- Quits the application in focus regardless of the window in focus (eg. dialogs opened by the app).
For the keybinding, I would suggest Super+Q as it would be in line with the quit shortcut in the app switcher.
This would offer a way to conveniently quit any application with a single keyboard shortcut, something that is currently missing on the GNOME desktop.
